Vincent Van Gogh Inspired Collage

Image
Activity: Students first learned about the artist Vincent Van Gogh and his different work of arts by defining three things that they learned about the artist. Students then had to create a Vincent Van Gogh inspired collage by using construction paper, oil pastels, and tissue paper. The process included choosing the background setting, picking the landscape (foreground), and adding Gogh like lines to both the background and foreground Extension Activity: Students will use there Vincent Van Gogh inspired collage to define the setting for their journal. Students will create short narrative in their journal (based on grade level & skill working with at th, students should include: dialogue, setting, characters, expression, detail words (adjectives & adverbs), preposistions, etc.). Students must describe their setting using adjective/adverb words so that the intended audience can visualize it. Students stories and collages will be hung in the hallway.

Description: Create a 'dot' by incorporating the use of different media (watercolor, crayons, Crayola markers, oil pastels, etc.). Students are to interact with the different blendings/resistance of the media on a coffee filter. Students can create any design (patterns, names/words, pictures, etc.), with any colors -- I created a Jack-O-Lantern for my 'dot' as Halloween is coming up. Extension Activity: Students will write a short story about their coffee filter ghost/pumpkin (can be adjusted to stories about other objects flowers, planets, etc.). Students would be encouraged to use vivid imagery, sensory details by using adjectives and adverbs.
